Mt. Pleasant Chapel

When John McAlister opened his Funeral business in Charleston in 1886, Mount Pleasant was the Berkeley County seat.

Also that year, the Charleston Earthquake of 1886, the largest earthquake to hit the Southeastern US, occured on August 31st at 9:50 PM. In Mount Pleasant, minor damage was reported but several large fissures opened up throughout the village.

The McAlister-Smith Chapel is located on old Rifle Range Road, named after a World War I facility.
